Unlike Miku and most traditional UTAU and Vocaloids, Gardenia's voice didn't come from software. It came from a real life 16 year old girl named Shan Shan. Her CGI appearance wasn't as hi-tech as Miku's is, and she wasn't created by the people usually responsible for Vocaloid or UTAU.
At first, fans hated her two, limited "holo" performances. Memes were made of her, and the people responsible for her creation hid in fear of public shaming, despite her initial response at the awards show being positive.
Today? Gardenia has had two UTAU voicebanks made for her, and fans all over have slowly embraced her as someone unique. She now has tons of models in her image, and people now accept her into the culture of Vocaloid/UTAU love.
Here are the (first??) models I've made for her. They're not perfect but I'm very happy with how lipstick red her hair came out. Half of her is a safe-to-edit KIO model, and the skirt is actually from the Bikini-Skit Miku model, three times over.
