Step 1:
Use the pencil and ruler to draw a large rectangle on the front of the DeckBox and on the side. Measure twice!

Step 2:
Cut along lines. Use the opening of the DeckBox itself to save you time. It'll come in handy on Step 4.

Step 3:
Cut apart the top loader. Make sure you cut off the sides where the two pieces are glued. If there are fingerprints, be sure to clean them off using Windex and paper towel.

Step 5: Slide the second piece of Top Loader into the DeckBox, like a slant. Then tape shut the original DeckBox opening. | Step 4: Carefully put one piece of Scotch tape on the long edge of one piece of Top Loader, and slide into DeckBox. Press it against the larger opening, and if you can, add another piece of tape to the non-opening side of the DeckBox. This is your main screen. |
Step 6:
Get your Smart Phone/iPhone out, crank up the volume and the brightness, and then search for a Miku video where she is dancing on an all black background, then flip the image and place on either window of your DeckBox. You may need to adjust the slanted Top Loader a bit.

Step 7:
Once you are happy with it, use Duct Tape to seal the original opening up, keeping the two windows CLEAR of tape. You can add extra Duct Tape to balance out wobbly edges.

Step 8: If you want to see it at eye level, set the mini projection on a tall, Dollar General cup before playing. You can also set it on a table by itself or rest it in your hand. Now you can play with it! :D You will need to adjust the slanted screen from time to time, but you can now play ANY concert video with a black background as a mini-hologram. The picture isn't showing it accurately, but it WILL be a high-res hologram/Pepper's Ghost once you are done tinkering with it. |
Tips:
*Turning the background black with paint, marker, fabric, or buying a black DeckBox will make this really pop!
* Have a smart phone you're not using anymore? Load it with the longest concert you have & use that phone ONLY for this!
*Using a dollar store tub, you can safely store this mini concert on the fly.
*If you choose to animate your own concert for this, it helps to render the video with the camera back a few paces, especially if you're doing "The World Is Mine" or "Judas".
*Find concert footage of old bands/musicians your parents liked & show them the footage on your new projector! They may ask you to make another for them.
*Use this project for science class!! You can say it's a model showing light bending/projection/periscope! You can also say you're using the 1890's "Pepper's Ghost" effect.
